Julian Mitchell puts in work. The content (and culture) creator remains on the pulse of what’s happening in the worlds of media and music. It’s why he thrives in his professional life. But he’s equally as invested in living a fulfilled personal life.
It’s a common desire among millennials who have risen in ranks within big-name companies and startups, as well as those who have started their ventures. The “work hard, play hard” motto isn’t foreign to this clan of hyper-connected, risk-seeking individuals who often get a bad rap for being narcissistic, entitled, lazy and the like. Not so.
Mitchell, who is editor-at-large at Revolt TV and creative director at Quantasy, sits at the head of the table.
“It’s a very small pool of millennials in these types of roles. A lot of times, I’ve been the youngest by 10-12 years,” says the young executive. “I’m the youngest in the boardroom, the youngest in the conference room, the youngest in the meeting. The upside is everyone looking at you is depending on you to give them what connects, and, if you’re plugged in, you have the most valuable role in the company.”
As with any leadership position, it’s not always smooth sailing. However, for those that can handle the demands of the role, there’s freedom and an opportunity to create what you want. At Revolt, Mitchell was entrusted to launch the content across the company’s digital properties and shape the voice of the network.
“For me, as a young person, it was a big deal. It’s like, ‘Yo, you’re the young person we’re trying to speak to and now you’re in a position to shape this.’”
The tone of his voice indicates how rewarding the opportunity was and continues to be.
The 27-year-old keeps a tight-knit circle of other innovators and hard-working, young professionals. Since they’re all on their grind, he values the time spent catching up over drinks and dinner or hitting up the beach on the weekend. Most importantly, his downtime is spent hanging
out with his son.
“I like to do as many family things as possible,” says Mitchell. “Believe it or not, I find a lot of time to do personal things…you don’t have to compromise.”

Culture Creator
Like many hip-hop heads growing up in the 90s, Julian Mitchell enjoyed flipping through the trinity of hip-hop magazines: The Source, XXL and Vibe. It’s where his journey into music and content collided. But, at the time, he didn’t realize how hours spent perusing through these well-known music zines and an interest in writing would lead to a notable career as Revolt TV’s editor-at-large and creative director at Quantasy.
