We’ve never had more television viewing available than we do today. There are cable services and streaming services putting more money, better casting, and far better writing into made-for-TV movies and TV shows than they ever have since television was first invented, and we’re here for it! The vast array of services available today (think HBO Max, Netflix, Apple TV, Disney Plus, and the like) mean there is no corner of the world, no fiction, no non-fiction, no fetish, dialect or language, culture, cuisine or genre left untouched by television content creation. You can find series about gambling, finding love, sports, running a cartel, religion, fitness, or anything else your heart desires if you look hard enough.
Since there are so many to choose from and so many services you can get your content from, it might sometimes feel like there are actually just too many options! Luckily, there’s no such thing, and we’ve listed our favorite adult TV shows that have come out of the US recently. Take a look, and maybe you’ll find your new favorite on the list!
Rick and Morty
Though Rick and Morty’s bright cartoon animation might make it seem like it’s for youngsters on the surface, we’re here to tell you that this is an adults-only comedy fest that you will not regret watching! Rick and Morty are a crazy, binge-drinking scientist and his slightly uncool grandson, respectively. The show focuses on the pair’s home life (with a mom and dad and sister, Summer) and their epic adventures through portals created by Rick’s portal gun adventures into the furthest reaches of space and time. It’s honey I Shrunk the Kids meets South Park meets Space Ghost Coast to Coast. There’s an adventure, rude comedy, and scenarios your wildest dreams could never have dreamed up.
You
Based on a book series of the same name, You follows Joe Goldberg, your friendly neighborhood stalker and rare book expert, on his follies through the world of love and loss. Joe is not just your average bookstore employee; there’s something unique about him” he simply won’t take no for an answer, no matter the cost. Joe is looking for love, and when he sets his sights on you, you’d better hope you’re in it for the long haul. Penn Badgley plays the infamous Joe to perfection: charming, handsome, and an eternal chameleon who will become whomever he needs to be to find a place in the heart of his beloved. He has a penchant for old books, old movies, and other things.
The Witcher
While the basis for the lore that governs The Witcher books, series, and games is distinctly un-American (it’s Polish, in fact), Netflix USA produced this record-breaking show themselves. The Witcher has been well-known in the gaming world for decades. The games have come from books written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski; it has risen to worldwide fame as a TV series over the last few years. The show follows a witcher (a magically created, super-enhanced human who battles beasts and kills monsters for a living) called Geralt, the strongest Witcher ever to have lived. By a twist of fate, he has been made the guardian of the now-homeless princess Cirilla of Cintra. Geralt must guide Ciri through a dangerous world and help her understand her considerable power to protect her and the world around them from harm.
Las Vegas
Though we haven’t had any new seasons in a while, Las Vegas is still up there with our favorite US TV shows. This comedy-drama follows the team of the Montecito hotel and casino, a fictional location on the famed Vegas Strip. The employees have to deal with a range of comedic and desperate situations managing both a hotel full of people and a casino full of gamblers, and no one could do it better. Josh Duhamel, Nikki Cox, Molly Sims, and even Tom Selleck grace the screen in Las Vegas.
2 Broke Girls
Another series that we haven’t heard from in a while, 2 Broke Girls, has to be one of the most beloved TV shows of the last two decades at least. The show centers on street-smart, sarcastic waitress Max and her new protegee, disgraced heiress Caroline, as they make their way through life as waitresses in New York City. Caroline has a lot to learn in her new life since her father was sent to jail for financial issues, and she’s had to actually work for a living. Max reluctantly takes her in and teaches her the ropes, and the pair, surprise, turn into unlikely best friends along the way.
